Erasmus is a European phenomenon!  Widely known as the “student exchange programme”. But Actually it is more than that.

Many universities are participating in Erasmus. Which ones are the most popular anyway?  According to European Commission’s statistics, here are the top 10 most popular Erasmus universities! We are proud that top 2 universities had been previously added by our members into our online campus, campus.Universitian.com!

In any case, one thing is certain: Universities are very much associated with their cities. So, we include here the city images, rather than university buildings…


1- Universidad de Granada (University of Granada)

Being located in arguably the most magical city of the most magical region of Spain, Andalucia, helps! Granada is famous with its Flamenco, georgeus Alhambra palace, delicious food and distinctive culture, University of Granda tops the Erasmus popularity list with 1959 students!

2- Universitat de València (University of Valencia)

Long time overshadowed by its northern neighbour of Barcelona, Valencia is finally getting the credit it very well deserves. Valencia is the only city which managed to squeeze in 2 universities in the Top 10 Popularity list! Hence it is by far the most popular Erasmus student city.

3- Universidad de Sevilla (University of Sevilla)

Another university located in Spain’s distinctive Andalucian region. Universidad de Sevilla attracted 1702 Erasmus students!

4- Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Complutense University of Madrid)

1659 European students chose for the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, located in the capital of the most popular Erasmus country,

5- Università di Bologna (University of Bologna)

The first university to break into Spanish dominated top of the list comes from Italy! From a city with a rich culture and history, Università di Bologna attracted 1620 Erasmus students!

6 – Universitat Politècnica de València (Politechnical University of Valencia)

Another Spanish university and the second one from the wonderful city of Valencia! 1359 Erasmus students went for Universitat Politècnica de València.

7- Univerzita Karlova v Praze (Charles University)

The first non-Mediterrenean university who made it to the list comes from Prague. This well-preserved Czech city drew a suprisingly high number of Erasmussians! 1316!

8- Sapienza – Università di Roma (Sapienza – University of Rome)

We are back to the Mediterrenean. Sapienza University of Roma, formerly known as Università degli Studi di Roma “La Sapienza”) attracted a respectable 1133 European students!

9 – Universitat de Barcelona (University of Barcelona)

This list would not be complete without one of the most popular youth destinations of Europe and the whole Mediterrenean region! Whether you want to enjoy spring sunshine on its beaches, stroll through the impressive old town or enjoy the lovely atmosphere in the Barceloneta, this university is in the right city to attract the youth without having to put any effort into it!

A total of 1103 Erasmus students have chosen for the Universitat de Barcelona!

10- Univerza v Ljubljani (University of Ljubljana)

Being only the second university outside Europe’s Meditterenean region in Top 10, Univerza v Ljubljani in Slovenia, onces a part of Yugoslavia, completes the top 10 list with 1072 Erasmussians, just 28 students ahead of the Universidad de Salamanca.
